What is keeping Jesus out and terrorizing you and what God has called you to occupy?
Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left. -Luke 8:37
This part about the man who was possessed with legions of demons always stood out to me. Why would the people be succumbed by fear, instead of relieve? Why would they want Jesus to leave, instead asking Him to stay? I've often heard pastor say that they probably benefited from this man being demon possessed. That's one inference, but the story also said " Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places. (v. 29)." I gathered that this was a man that terrorizes the town. He was unpredictable and uncontrollable.
The revelation that I received is that this was a territorial demon that not only tortured and seized one man, but it had control over an entire town and fed off the fear of the people. Whenever you are in a region and people are fearful to do the right thing or of the right thing being done, there is a territorial demon at work.
